Start Guide
Calceum helps sole traders and landlords comply with Making Tax Digital for Income Tax. This guide gets you from signup to your first quarterly update.

Create your account
Sign up at app.calceum.com using Google, Microsoft, or an email magic link.
Connect to HMRC
To send quarterly updates, you’ll need to connect Calceum to HMRC and link your income sources. There are two ways to do this:
Option 1: Getting Started wizard
After signing up, the Getting Started wizard walks you through setup step by step. You can skip it and complete setup later via Settings → Integrations → HMRC.
The wizard covers:
- Understanding MTD requirements
- Registering with HMRC (if you haven’t already)
- Adding your National Insurance number
- Authorising Calceum to send updates to HMRC
- Linking your income sources

Option 2: Set up manually
If you skip the wizard, you can complete setup at any time:
- Connect to HMRC — Go to Settings → Integrations → HMRC to authorise Calceum
- Add a business — Use the business switcher dropdown in the sidebar header and select
Add Business

Choose your guide
Select the guide that matches your situation. If you have both self-employment and property income, start with whichever is your primary source.
Sole Trader Guide
For self-employed individuals with trading income. Learn how to record business transactions and send quarterly updates.

For property owners with UK or overseas rental income. Learn how to record property income and expenses.
